About the Role

Harper May is working with a fast-growing consumer non-durables business based in London. The company is privately owned, backed by experienced management with a track record in branded goods. They operate across multiple distribution channels and have expanded their product range significantly over the past three years. The finance function is now strengthening its capability, and they are seeking a Finance Manager to join the team reporting to the Finance Director.

The Role
You will own the month-end close process, including the preparation of management accounts, cashflow forecasts, and financial commentary for the board. This is a hands-on role with clear accountability for the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting. You will also lead improvements to the control environment, identify process inefficiencies, and work closely with the Finance Director to support business planning and decision-making.

  • Prepare and own the monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and key performance metrics.
  • Manage the month-end close timetable and coordinate with operational teams to ensure data quality.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, flagging variances and control weaknesses.
  • Maintain the accounting policies register and ensure consistent application across the business.
  • Support the annual audit process, manage external audit queries, and prepare statutory filing documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen the financial control environment.

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or demonstrable equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in month-end close and management reporting within a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and familiarity with consolidation software.
  • Methodical approach to controls and a track record of identifying and resolving control gaps.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and communicating findings clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
