New Year, New Job – How to find the one for you

With the New Year beginning, this can mean different things for different people. Some have a new found sense of energy and join the gym – for about a week. Some get themselves a new wardrobe – then stick to the same two outfits for the rest of the year. Don’t let your new job prospects flake away, if you have that new career idea lingering on your resolution list – make it happen now and keep that New Year feeling for the rest of the year.

Looking for a new job can feel like a long and super stretched out process, but nothing feels better than working hard and the relief of finally getting what you deserve. Always think about the end result, if you don't give up, you will succeed. There are a few things you can do yourself to try and speed up the process.

Make sure your CV is up to date

Now is the time to update dates on your CV, make sure your personal statement is polished and make sure you have no useless job experience on there. No useless experience from an irrelevant field of work, you want to let the employer know what you can do now, not a part-time retail job from 10 years ago. This will save space and make your CV more presentable.  Get to know what your potential interviewers like to see on a CV and tailor it to them specifically. This will make a huge difference.

Meet your Consultants

Go and meet consultants you are in contact with. If you don’t have any, find some! More often than not, they find you, so make your CV visible online. If you want to speed things along, go to www.harpermay.com and there will be someone to help you.

Give yourself time

Even if you are in a rush to change jobs, make sure you have time to yourself. It can be a stressful process, meeting consultants, applying for and attending interviews, all whilst still having a full time job. It will eventually all creep up on you, so just plan some time to spend away from all this. The time you spend away from the phone, will really help you think about your options and you’re more likely to make the right decisions for you.

In some cases, the New Year is a new start for many businesses too. They have new ideas and new spaces to fill as they try new things for their companies. Now is as good a time as any to get jump started and get the job you want this year.
