About the Role

Harper May is partnering with an established UK care home group operating residential and nursing homes, with central operations based in Harrow. The business has a long track record of delivering high-quality care and continues to grow steadily through both new sites and operational investment. Finance sits close to the operation here, with a direct line into senior leadership. The team is now appointing a Head of Finance to take full ownership of the function, lead a small in-house team, and bring real commercial insight to how the homes are run.

The Role
Reporting to the senior leadership team, the Head of Finance will own the finance function end to end, from day-to-day control through to the reporting and insight the board relies on to run the homes. The remit blends close-to-the-detail operational delivery with the wider judgement needed to guide the business as it grows. The right candidate at Financial Controller or Finance Director level will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own monthly management accounts, board reporting, and the year-end process through to audit
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow across the group and at individual home level
  • Report on the operational drivers that matter in care: occupancy, fee income, agency and staffing costs, and home-by-home performance
  • Manage and develop a small finance team covering ledgers, payroll oversight, and credit control
  • Oversee banking, treasury, and relationships with funders and auditors
  • Strengthen financial controls, systems, and processes as the group grows
  • Support the leadership on commercial decisions, new sites, and any acquisition activity

What we are looking for

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
  • Experience leading or running a finance function, ideally in a multi-site, care, healthcare, or other operationally driven business
  • Strong on management accounts, budgeting, and cashflow, and confident presenting numbers to non-finance leaders
  • Hands-on and practical, comfortable working close to the detail in a lean team
  • Good systems skills and an eye for improving process and control
  • Local to, or within a sensible commute of, Harrow
