About the Role

Harper May is working with a founder-led technology business that has established a strong foothold in its market and is now moving through a phase of controlled expansion. The business operates with lean operational overhead but is reaching a scale where financial discipline and clear commercial insight become critical to decision-making. Recent product launches and expanded customer operations have created the need for senior finance leadership. The business is now seeking a Head of Finance to establish robust financial foundations and drive commercial clarity across the organisation.

The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will build and lead the finance function from the ground up. This is a hands-on role that combines operational delivery with strategic input. You will own all aspects of financial management-from month-end close and reporting through to commercial analysis and support for investment decisions. The role is currently a solo position; as the business scales, you will have the opportunity to build a team around you.

  • Establish and manage end-to-end financial operations, including month-end close, reconciliation, and management reporting
  • Build accurate, timely management accounts with clear variance analysis and commercial interpretation
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash flow planning
  • Provide financial analysis to support commercial decisions around pricing, product investment, and customer acquisition
  • Implement financial controls and governance frameworks that scale with the business
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers, and external stakeholders; oversee statutory filing and compliance
  • Take ownership of tax planning and ensure the business operates efficiently from a tax perspective

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with at least five years in a finance leadership or senior finance operations role
  • Direct experience in technology, SaaS, or other high-growth, scaling businesses
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to produce clear commercial insight from financial data
  • Comfortable working hands-on in smaller finance teams; able to prioritise and execute across multiple areas
  • Sound commercial mindset with experience supporting operational and strategic decision-making
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences
