About the Role

Harper May is working with a founder-led consumer non-durables business operating across retail, direct-to-consumer, and wholesale channels. The company has scaled to approximately £40m revenue over the past five years, with a diverse product range and strong brand recognition in its category. Recent investment has accelerated distribution and operational capability, and the business is now seeking to strengthen its finance leadership to support the next phase of growth and operational maturity.

The Role
Reporting to the CEO and sitting on the executive team, the Finance Director will lead the entire finance function and act as a strategic partner to the business. You will own financial planning, performance management, and commercial insight across a complex, multi-channel operation. This role combines board-level governance responsibility with hands-on involvement in margin analysis, cash management, and investment prioritisation.

  • Develop and execute a financial strategy that supports revenue growth and profitability targets across all channels
  • Lead monthly and quarterly business reviews, translating financial data into clear recommendations for the executive team
  • Manage working capital, cash forecasting, and inventory financing across the supply chain
  • Build and oversee robust management accounts, statutory reporting, and internal control frameworks
  • Work closely with commercial leadership to analyse pricing, product margin, and channel profitability
  • Support M&A evaluation and capital allocation decisions
  • Build and mentor a capable finance team

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with 8+ years in senior finance roles
  • Direct experience leading finance in consumer products, FMCG, or retail environments
  • Proven track record of driving commercial insight and commercial decision-making at board level
  • Strong systems and process discipline, with the ability to simplify and improve financial reporting
  • Comfortable challenging the executive team and translating complexity into clarity
  • Experience managing working capital and cash flow in inventory-heavy businesses
