About the Role
Harper May is working with a growing media and events business backed by experienced industry operators. The company delivers live experiences and content at scale across the UK and Europe, with a lean but expanding finance function. They've invested significantly in systems and processes over the past 18 months and now need stronger internal reporting capability to support decision-making across a complex, multi-project operating model. The business is seeking a Management Accountant to build robust monthly reporting and provide commercial finance insight to operational leadership.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own the preparation and analysis of management accounts, working closely with project leads and departmental heads to translate financial performance into actionable insight. The role sits at the heart of a growing function, supporting budget management, forecasting, and commercial decision-making in a business where timing and cost control are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce monthly management accounts covering P&L, balance sheet, and cash position with clear variance analysis and commentary
- Build and maintain annual budgets and rolling forecasts, engaging with heads of department to capture realistic operational plans
- Analyse project profitability and contribution, identifying trends and cost pressures in real time
- Conduct performance reviews with budget holders, supporting them to track spend and delivery against plan
- Support working capital management and cash forecasting, highlighting timing risks and opportunities
- Prepare financial dashboards and reports for senior stakeholders, distilling complex data into clear takeaways
- Assist with external audit and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate records and supporting compliance
What we are looking for
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified or part-qualified
- Proven experience as a Management Accountant, preferably in media, events, professional services, or another project-driven sector
- Solid grasp of management accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting practices
- Proficient with Excel and accounting software; experience with Sage, Xero, or similar systems is valuable
- Able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance audiences without oversimplifying
- Organised and composed under deadline pressure, with attention to detail and a practical problem-solving mindset
