About the Role

Harper May is working with a London-based property developer and contractor backed by institutional capital. The business has doubled in size over the past three years and maintains a portfolio of mixed-use and residential schemes across the capital. As project pipelines expand and funding requirements grow, the finance function is being strengthened to support more rigorous reporting and commercial decision-making.

The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will own financial analysis and reporting at project level, working across active developments from acquisition through to completion. You will sit at the intersection of finance and operations, translating project performance into clear commercial insight for senior leadership and funding partners.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for each live project with detailed variance analysis and commentary
  • Forecast outturn costs, margins, and cash drawdown profiles across the development portfolio
  • Monitor contract variations, cost claims, and budget changes against approved project finances
  • Analyse and explain WIP movements, developer profit recognition, and retention cash flows
  • Build and maintain financial models supporting investment appraisals and funding applications
  • Reconcile project ledgers and support audit and funder reporting cycles
  • Partner with project managers and site teams to embed financial discipline and control

What we are looking for

  • ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualified, or demonstrable equivalent experience in construction or property accounting
  • Proven experience in project-based financial reporting, ideally within housebuilding, contractors, or developers
  • Working knowledge of development accounting, retention, and practical cash flow mechanics
  • Proficiency in Excel and an ability to build reliable, navigable financial models
  • Analytical mindset with comfort translating numbers into narrative for non-finance audiences
  • Organised, methodical approach to deadlines and stakeholder management in a busy environment
