About the Role

Harper May is working with a founder-led asset management business managing £2.5bn in assets across listed equities and fixed income. The firm operates across three offices and has grown organically over the past eight years, building a reputation for disciplined investment process and institutional-grade governance. Recent expansion into new geographies and asset classes has stretched the finance function; the business is now recruiting a Financial Controller to establish robust accounting infrastructure and lead the consolidation of reporting standards across the group.

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will own the end-to-end financial close cycle, fund accounting oversight, and compliance reporting. This is a hands-on controller position where you will embed stronger control frameworks, work directly with fund operations and investment teams, and act as the primary liaison with external auditors and regulators. The role carries real operational weight and direct influence over how the finance function scales.

  • Drive month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes with consistent accuracy and timeliness across all funds and entities
  • Prepare statutory accounts, management reporting, and regulatory returns to audit-ready standard
  • Design and implement financial controls, reconciliation processes, and segregation of duties
  • Lead external audit relationships, manage queries, and coordinate remediation of audit findings
  • Oversee NAV calculations, fund distributions, and investor reporting schedules
  • Review and strengthen accounting system workflows and documentation practices
  • Provide senior stakeholders with balance sheet insight and compliance commentary

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
  • 5+ years post-qualification in asset management, investment platforms, or regulated fund administration
  • Demonstrable experience managing fund accounting, NAV processes, or multi-entity consolidation
  • Track record of building controls, driving process improvement, and working with auditors
  • Comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and explaining accounting issues clearly
  • Self-directed, with proven ability to manage competing deadlines and improve systems independently
