Financial Controller
Meet Our Recruiter
About the Role
Harper May is working with a London-based asset manager managing in excess of £4bn in assets under administration. The firm is founder-led, operationally mature, and has achieved steady organic growth over the past five years through disciplined investment strategy and strong client retention. Recent fund launches and expansion into new strategies have created increased demand on the finance function. The business is now seeking a Financial Controller to join the team and establish robust financial infrastructure as the organisation scales.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own all financial controls, period-end reporting, and the day-to-day operation of the accounting function. You will sit between investment operations, fund administration, and senior management, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clear visibility of business performance across multiple fund vehicles and share classes.
- Lead month-end and year-end close cycles, producing timely management accounts and statutory returns
- Design and maintain the control framework, including reconciliation protocols, segregation of duties, and audit trails
- Coordinate external audit and regulatory submissions, acting as principal liaison with auditors and compliance teams
- Oversee fund accounting, NAV reporting, and performance attribution across all strategies
- Manage the general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, and intercompany transactions
- Identify process bottlenecks and lead automation and systems improvements to strengthen operational resilience
What we are looking for
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification
- At least seven years in financial control or accounting roles, ideally in asset management, fund administration, or investment services
- Hands-on experience with period-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls in a regulated setting
- Demonstrable technical knowledge of fund accounting, NAV calculations, or performance reporting
- Strong stakeholder management and the ability to communicate financial issues clearly to non-finance leaders
- Proactive problem-solver with a pragmatic approach to process design and continuous improvement
