About the Role
Harper May is working with a specialist asset management firm that manages institutional capital across multiple strategies and geographies. The business has grown steadily over the past five years and is backed by its founding partners, who retain operational control. With assets under management now in the multi-billion range and recent expansion into new fund structures, the finance function needs to scale. The firm is now seeking a Financial Controller to strengthen its control environment and financial reporting capability.
The Role
You will report to the Head of Finance and own the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The position sits between investment operations, fund administration, and senior leadership, responsible for ensuring all financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory requirements. You will build and maintain the systems, controls, and processes that underpin reliable financial governance across the group.
- Lead monthly close cycles and prepare management accounts for board and investor review
- Produce and sign off statutory financial statements and regulatory filings
- Design and embed financial controls to prevent error and fraud across accounting functions
- Manage external audit engagement and lead the audit process from start to finish
- Oversee fund accounting interfaces, NAV reporting, and investment-related ledger reconciliations
- Build dashboards and reporting packs that give senior stakeholders visibility of financial performance and balance sheet health
- Identify and implement accounting process improvements and automation opportunities
What we are looking for
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with 5+ years in a financial controller or senior accountant role
- Hands-on experience in asset management, investment administration, or regulated financial services
- Proven track record building and running financial controls in a complex, multi-fund environment
- Comfortable presenting numbers to senior stakeholders and explaining financial position under pressure
- Strong working knowledge of month-end and year-end processes, balance sheet management, and regulatory reporting
- Pragmatic problem-solver with attention to detail and a bias toward process efficiency
