About the Role

Harper May is working with a London-based asset manager managing £8bn in AUM across listed equities and fixed income strategies. The firm is founder-led, backed by a respected institutional investor, and has grown steadily over the past five years through a combination of organic performance and selective acquisitions. The business is now at a stage where strengthening finance infrastructure and deepening operational resilience have become strategic priorities. They are seeking a Financial Controller to lead this agenda.

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will own the full cycle of financial accounting, reporting, and controls across the business. This is a hands-on role sitting between investment operations, fund administration, and external stakeholders. You will drive accuracy in NAV reporting, ensure compliance with FCA and AIFMD obligations, and build the control framework that underpins the firm's growth trajectory.

  • Lead the monthly and annual financial close, producing accurate statutory accounts and management reporting
  • Establish and oversee a robust control environment across financial operations, fund accounting, and reconciliation
  • Manage the external audit process and act as primary liaison with auditors and regulators
  • Ensure timely and accurate NAV and performance reporting to investors and fund boards
  • Drive process improvements in systems and documentation to reduce manual effort and operational risk
  • Provide financial analysis and variance commentary to senior management and investment teams
  • Monitor capital, liquidity, and balance sheet integrity in line with regulatory requirements

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with a minimum of seven years in financial controller or senior accounting roles
  • Direct experience in asset management, fund accounting, or investment management
  • Demonstrated strength in a regulated, governance-heavy environment
  • Competence across fund valuation, performance reporting, and investor communication
  • Ability to build and lead a small team, with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change in a growth-stage business
