About the Role

Harper May is working with a well-established retail group operating across multiple store formats and a growing direct-to-consumer channel. The business has scaled steadily over the past five years through organic growth and selective expansion, with a strong operational infrastructure and a clear focus on sustainable margin improvement. The finance function is being strengthened to support more sophisticated commercial planning and to enhance the quality of reporting across the estate. They are now seeking a Finance Manager to join the team.

The Role
You will report to the Head of Finance and take primary ownership of the monthly close cycle, management reporting, and balance sheet stewardship. This is a hands-on role that sits at the intersection of finance and operations-you'll work closely with store leaders, supply chain, and the commercial team to translate financial data into actionable insight. The environment is collaborative and pragmatic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete month-end close and produce timely, accurate management accounts and variance analysis
  • Build and own rolling forecasts and cash flow projections across the business
  • Support inventory valuation, stock reconciliation, and capital expenditure tracking
  • Analyse profitability by store, category, and channel; identify trends and cost drivers
  • Prepare statutory reporting packs and support external audit and compliance activity
  • Work with operational teams to challenge performance and support decision-making
  • Develop and improve finance processes, internal controls, and systems workflows

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or studying and close to completion)
  • Proven experience in a retail, hospitality, or similar consumer business environment
  • Strong technical accounting skills with proficiency in Excel and accounting software
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and communicate findings to non-finance peers
  • Reliable, organised, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a busy setting
  • Interest in understanding retail operations and commercial dynamics
