About the Role
Harper May is working with a mid-sized financial services firm that has grown steadily over the past five years under founder leadership. The business operates across investment management and advisory, serving institutional and high-net-worth clients. Recent headcount expansion and regulatory evolution have created the need for an additional Finance Manager to support the Finance Director and help embed stronger financial discipline across the operation.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own the month-end close, maintain the general ledger, and ensure compliance with FCA requirements and internal governance. The role sits at the junction between operational finance and regulatory obligation-your work will directly inform board reporting and statutory filings. This is a hands-on position with real scope to shape finance process and control maturity.
- Lead the month-end close cycle and produce accurate statutory and management accounts
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets and intercompany balances
- Manage the external audit process and liaise with auditors on technical matters
- Build and oversee financial controls framework, documenting key processes and segregation of duties
- Prepare regulatory returns and submissions required under FCA rules
- Support annual budgeting and rolling forecasts, with variance analysis and commentary
- Train and mentor junior finance staff on procedures and compliance requirements
What we are looking for
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, with at least three years' post-qualification experience
- Demonstrated experience in financial services, investment management, or a regulated sector
- Solid technical accounting knowledge and a systematic approach to controls
- Comfort managing month-end under pressure and engaging with senior management and external parties
- Proactive mindset-you identify and fix process gaps rather than working around them
- Clear communicator who can explain financial issues to non-finance stakeholders
