About the Role
Harper May is working with an established entertainment production business that creates and distributes content across film, television, and digital platforms. The company is backed by a specialist media investment group and has grown significantly over the past three years through a combination of organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. With an increasingly complex financial footprint spanning multiple productions and revenue streams, the business is now strengthening its finance team to improve management reporting and cost control across operations.
The Role
You will report to the Finance Director and take ownership of the monthly management accounts, working closely with production, operations, and commercial teams. The role exists because the business has outgrown its existing finance infrastructure - there is genuine need for someone to build discipline into planning and variance reporting, and to translate production budgets into clear financial narratives for stakeholders.
- Prepare and own monthly and quarterly management accounts, including P&L variance analysis and commentary
- Manage the annual budgeting process for production and corporate costs, working with department heads to build realistic forecasts
- Maintain production cost tracking and project-level profitability analysis
- Build and maintain financial models for scenario planning and investment appraisal
- Develop and monitor KPI dashboards to track cash position, receivables, and production performance
- Support the Finance Director with ad hoc analysis on commercial decisions, acquisition targets, and strategic initiatives
What we are looking for
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA preferred); relevant professional progress expected
- Two to four years of experience in a finance role, ideally with exposure to management accounting or financial planning
- Confidence with Excel modelling, pivot tables, and data analysis; familiarity with accounting systems
- Experience preparing management accounts, budgets, or variance reports in a multi-cost-centre environment
- Clear communicator able to explain financial performance to non-finance stakeholders
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative setting
