About the Role

Harper May is working with a founder-led property and construction business that has built a strong market position over the past decade through disciplined project delivery and repeat client relationships. The group operates across residential and commercial development, with an expanding pipeline and plans to scale operations across new geographies. Recent growth has outpaced the existing finance infrastructure, and the business is now seeking a Chief Financial Officer to build financial rigour, support capital planning, and strengthen the partnership between finance and the Board.

The Role
Reporting to the CEO and Board, the CFO will lead all financial operations and strategy. The remit spans financial planning and reporting, funding activity, project-level cash management, and commercial analysis. You will own the numbers that drive capital decisions and shape how the business scales, working in a hands-on capacity alongside a growing finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead financial strategy aligned with growth ambitions and return targets
  • Manage project accounting, cost controls, and profitability analysis across the development pipeline
  • Oversee all funding relationships, investor reporting, and debt facility management
  • Build and lead the finance team, setting standards for technical quality and commercial insight
  • Deliver monthly management accounts, annual budgets, and three-year forecasts to the Board
  • Own balance sheet management, working capital, and tax efficiency across the group
  • Ensure robust internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance with regulatory requirements

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with proven CFO or FD experience in property, construction, or capital-intensive industries
  • Track record of leading finance teams and building scalable processes
  • Strong technical accounting skills combined with commercial and project-level financial management
  • Experience managing relationships with institutional investors, debt providers, and development partners
  • Board-level presence and confidence in presenting financial strategy to non-finance stakeholders
