About the Role

Harper May is working with a founder-led property and construction business that has built a strong reputation for delivering complex mixed-use developments across London and the South East. The group manages a substantial project portfolio with increasing institutional backing, and is now at a stage where it needs dedicated financial leadership to support expansion, manage capital efficiently, and provide rigorous oversight of project economics. They are now seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function and serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board.

The Role
You will take full ownership of financial strategy, planning, and reporting across the business. Working directly with the CEO and Board, you will combine strategic direction with day-to-day oversight of project finance, funding arrangements, and working capital management. This is a hands-on role in a project-centric environment where financial insight directly informs commercial decisions.

  • Develop and execute the financial strategy aligned to the business plan and Board priorities
  • Lead project budgeting, cost forecasting, and margin analysis across the development pipeline
  • Manage relationships with institutional investors, lenders, and other capital providers
  • Build and lead the finance team, establishing strong controls and operational discipline
  • Oversee monthly and annual financial reporting, statutory compliance, and audit processes
  • Monitor cash flow, capital allocation, and balance sheet health across the group
  • Provide the Board with clear financial commentary and commercial recommendations on new opportunities

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
  • Proven CFO or senior finance leadership experience in property development, housebuilding, or construction
  • Strong technical grounding in accounting with demonstrated commercial acumen
  • Experience in growth businesses and working with equity or debt providers
  • Able to communicate with confidence at Board and investor level
  • Comfortable in a hands-on, fast-moving environment
