About the Role

Harper May is working with a founder-led media and events group that produces conferences, exhibitions, and live experiences across Europe. The business has grown to circa £40m revenue over the past eight years and operates with a distributed team across multiple locations. Finance sits at the centre of operational decision-making here, and the CFO is now strengthening the management accounting function to support tighter cost visibility and faster month-end close as the group scales.

The Role
You will report to the Finance Director and own the monthly close cycle, including reconciliations, consolidation, and production of statutory and management accounts. The post sits between operational teams and the finance leadership, translating project-level spend and event-level profitability into clear commentary for senior stakeholders who need to act on it quickly.

  • Close monthly general ledger, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and prepare consolidated profit and loss statements across multiple legal entities
  • Build and maintain rolling forecasts; analyse variances against prior year and budget with documented commentary on root causes
  • Partner with event and operations leads to track project profitability and cost tracking from kick-off through delivery
  • Manage the annual budgeting cycle, stress-testing assumptions and working with heads of department to build bottom-up plans
  • Conduct quarterly financial reviews with senior stakeholders, presenting trends, risks, and performance drivers
  • Support external audit and statutory compliance; maintain accounting policies and ensure consistent application across the group

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or on track to qualification)
  • 3+ years as a Management Accountant, with exposure to multi-entity or project-based accounting
  • Fluent in Excel; hands-on knowledge of accounting systems (Xero, Netsuite, or similar preferred)
  • Ability to distil complex financial data into clear narrative for non-finance audiences
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities; self-starter who manages deadlines without supervision
