About the Role

Harper May is working with a well-funded technology business, founded five years ago and backed by experienced angel investors. The business has built a strong product foothold in B2B SaaS with recurring revenue now exceeding £5m. Profitability is within reach, but the finance function has not scaled with the business-reporting remains fragmented, cost allocation is unclear, and the CEO currently handles most commercial analysis. To support the next phase of sustainable growth and prepare for future capital investment, the business is now recruiting a Head of Finance.

The Role
Reporting to the CEO, you will own the entire finance function and act as a trusted commercial partner to the leadership team. You will establish proper financial architecture, build a small but capable team, and provide the visibility needed to guide investment decisions, margin improvement, and go-to-market strategy. This is a hands-on role with immediate operational focus and strategic scope.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the finance team, establishing processes and systems that scale with growth
  • Produce timely, accurate monthly management accounts with clear cost and margin analysis
  • Own cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and runway planning
  • Support the commercial team with pricing analysis, customer unit economics, and profitability by segment
  • Establish robust controls, audit readiness, and compliance with accounting standards
  • Advise on product investment decisions and capital allocation across sales, product, and engineering
  • Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and future investors

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, or equivalent experience in senior finance roles
  • Track record in scaling finance operations within tech or fast-growing software businesses
  • Comfortable with hands-on work-you will own reporting alongside team leadership
  • Strong grasp of SaaS metrics, subscription accounting, and recurring revenue models
  • Ability to translate financial data into commercial insight for non-financial leaders
  • Experience in investor-backed businesses or exposure to fundraising processes
