About the Role

Harper May is working with a London-based property and construction group that delivers residential, mixed-use, and commercial schemes across the South East. The business is mid-sized, founder-led, and growing steadily through a combination of organic expansion and targeted acquisitions. Recent funding has enabled site expansion, and they now operate across six concurrent projects with plans to scale further. Finance operations have grown organically and now need structured support to keep pace with the portfolio. They are seeking a Finance Manager to establish robust reporting infrastructure and provide the financial clarity that underpins delivery.

The Role
You will report to the Finance Director and manage core finance operations across the group and its active projects. The position balances financial administration with project partnering-you will work closely with site managers and the business leadership to translate data into actionable insight, support cost discipline, and underpin commercial decision-making.

  • Execute month-end and quarterly close cycles; produce timely management accounts and variance analysis
  • Maintain project cost ledgers, track expenditure against budgets, and flag margin trends early
  • Own balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and control account management
  • Coordinate cash flow forecasting and working capital management across the project pipeline
  • Support statutory year-end close, tax compliance, and external audit engagement
  • Review and refine finance processes, spreadsheet controls, and system workflows
  • Liaise with project teams on spend patterns, commitments, and variations

What we are looking for

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified; or 5+ years in construction, property, or project accounting
  • Demonstrable experience with project cost accounting and cash flow management in multi-project environments
  • Strong Excel capability and comfort with financial reporting tools; systems knowledge a plus
  • Pragmatic communicator-able to explain numbers to non-finance stakeholders without jargon
  • Methodical, proactive, and comfortable juggling several concurrent workstreams
