Chief Financial Officer

Harper May is working with a privately-held property and construction business that has built a strong track record in mixed-use development and commercial delivery across the UK. The group operates a portfolio of live projects, manages recurring revenue streams from completed assets, and is now at an inflection point-revenue growth is accelerating, complexity is increasing, and the Board recognizes the need for CFO-level financial leadership and capital discipline. They are now seeking a Chief Financial Officer to build and lead the finance function.

The Role
Reporting to the CEO and Board, you will take full ownership of financial strategy, planning, and insight. The position combines strategic oversight with active involvement in project economics, funding structures, and commercial decisions. You will lead a small team, establish financial governance and controls, and become the Board's trusted financial advisor as the business scales.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a multi-year financial strategy aligned with growth ambitions and capital constraints
• Build and manage the finance team, establishing systems, policies, and reporting standards from the ground up
• Own project-level financial management, including budgeting, cost tracking, and post-completion analysis
• Lead cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and balance sheet oversight across the group
• Support Board and investor discussions on funding, returns, and performance, providing clear, timely reporting
• Establish robust internal controls, audit processes, and compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations
• Contribute commercial perspective to acquisition, development, and partnership opportunities

What we are looking for

• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified, or equivalent professional standing
• Proven CFO or senior finance leadership in property, construction, or real estate investment
• Hands-on technical accounting skills and ability to move between detail and strategy
• Experience managing relationships with institutional investors, debt providers, or pension funds
• Comfortable building capability and processes in a growing, less-structured environment
• Clear communicator, confident at Board level and in external stakeholder forums
