Job Description

Harper May is currently working with an independent securities business offering institutional and corporate clients leading investment banking, research, sales and trading services. The company is currently recruiting for a Financial Controller to report directly into the CFO for their Capital Markets Division.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Oversee all finance and accounting operations
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and other management information
  • Coordinate preparation of group forecasts and budgets, and other ad hoc papers for consideration by the Board
  • Manage the bi-annual audit process and preparation of financial statements
  • Prepare annual statutory accounts for the parent company and two operating subsidiaries
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements including FCA returns, ICAAP preparation and the recovery and resolution plan
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly FCA returns for the regulated subsidiary companies
  • Partner with our front office to identify and implement revenue growth opportunities, execute cost saving initiatives, provide in-depth analysis of trading performance, and make recommendations to drive profit and revenue improvements
  • Act as liaison with external stakeholders including auditors
  • Develop meaningful and insightful Ml to the board and senior management
  • Oversee the reconciliations of settlements balances
  • Ensure suppliers paid timely and collection of debts from clients
  • Ongoing review of counterparty exposures and other key risk indicators
  • Ongoing monitoring of currency exposures
  • Implement and maintain a robust control environment with regard to areas such as intercompany balances, control account reconciliations, WIP and debtors
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Identify and implement system and process improvements involving financial systems
  • Continued review of suppliers to ensure mitigation of costss


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent academic record: minimum 2:1 degree from top tier university
  • ACA (or equivalent) qualified
  • 7 years+ PQE including experience in a finance team in industry
  • Experience working financial institutions and regulated businesses
  • High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to express complex issues succinctly and clearly
  • Have experience in trading systems (for example Bloomberg) and database systems (for example SQL, Access)
  • Experience of regulatory reporting for the FCA and other international jurisdictions
  • Strong written and numerical skills
  • Personable and professional, presenting well to internal and external stakeholders
