Job Description

Harper May is exclusively working with one of the world's leading sportswear brands headquartered in the US. Our client is an international pioneer within the sportswear industry and are consistently growing their market share year on year. The UK sector of this renowned multi-national brand is looking for a dynamic and vibrant financial controller to join their experienced finance team. Due to their renowned status the successful candidate will be able to attend sports events all over the world and travel to meet the finance team of other countries. Due to the scale and reputation of this company the candidate must be ACA qualified.

Key criteria:

  • Highly competent in the delivery of a cross-border accountancy life cycle and its management.
  • Competent expertise in US GAAP and UK GAAP
  • Apparel and accessories wholesale background an advantage.
  • Own the financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Provide detailed Weekly and Month Cash flow reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Complete consolidated month end process including preparation and review on monthly management accounts, P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, with preparation of analysis schedule and commentary, in line with US GAAP and UK GAAP requirements
  • Analysis of plans, forecasts and targets, making recommendations and presenting solutions for decision making purposes.
  • Proactively support the streamlining of all financial analytical processes (e.g., Budgeting)
  • Year-end statutory reporting preparation, taxation and liaising with external partners.
  • Taxation - support UK as well as US Corporate, US station and US operational tax returns as well as any ad hoc tax needs
  • Review current systems and controls and make material improvements as necessary
  • Use of XERO software - continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the teams
  • Pro-actively seek and share best practice across Finance and other areas where finance reporting is essential for commercial activity.
  • Create the link between the Budgeting and current year plan into seasonal commercial forecasts and targets
  • Analyse and understand 'market' dynamics (US/UK/Branches) to develop market pricing and set budget opportunities for sales revenues, to drive growth, cost visibility and profitability.
  • Work with credit control, prioritise and support for escalation of revenue-in from brands.
  • Work with accounts payable team, payment reconciliation, prioritisation and cash flow
  • VAT reporting, collation with approval from C.F.O for submission

Person Specification:

  • Robust Accountancy background with supporting chartered qualifications.
  • Economics - desirable
  • Extensive exposure to working in international markets within the wholesale/retail sector
  • Background of working with UK and USA GAAP
  • Foreign exchange expertise
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Ambassadorship skills
  • Exceptional communication and numerical skills
  • Highly conversant with Microsoft Office suite, in particular Excel.
  • Experience of Xero - desirable
  • Exposure to working in environments subject to fast turnaround, firm budgetary control
  • Experience of managing personnel that are geographically dispersed.
  • Extremely proactive, flexible and able to travel.
  • Experience of working in family run/entrepreneurial businesses an advantage.
