Job Description

One of the UK's leading casual dining brands are looking for a Financial Accountant to join their busy finance team based in Central London. The role reports into the Financial Controller and is ideal for someone straight out of practice. Big 4 experience is preferred - Otherwise industry experience is also suitable. With 140 sites and soon to be more it is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and hard working individual.

Purpose of the Role:

To take responsibility for all aspects of the group's tax compliance and to support the senior finance team in managing the tax risk of the group, including VAT, Income tax, new developments, registration and tax administration. The role is also required to assist with year-end statutory accounting (producing statutory accounts) and the group audit. There will be particular focus in the short term on the adoption of a new accounting framework. Other regulatory responsibilities will include, ONS filing, company secretarial duties, and cover for some finance team members.

Scope of the Role:

  • Sitting within the central/group function of the group
  • Responsible for producing annual tax computations in conjunction with the external auditors/advisors
  • Understanding the groups tax position and risk
  • Preparation of annual tax returns
  • Being the group's tax expert for ad hoc queries
  • Supporting the Finance team in best practice in relation to tax
  • Financial accounting support

Key Accountabilities:

Taxation

  • VAT
    • Preparation and submission quarterly VAT returns for the group
    • Review postings into the VAT Control accounts
    • Reconcile VAT control accounts ensuring correct payment to HMRC
    • Make payment request to Cashbook and ensuring payments are made promptly
    • Work together with other departments to ensure correct VAT treatment
  • Corporation tax
    • Preparation of annual tax packs
    • Review postings into the Corporation tax accounts
    • Compute Corporation tax liability at Year End
    • Fixed Assets for Capital Allowancesin accordance with method agreed with HMRC
    • Transfer pricing on group loans
    • Determine the need for Payment of Account and estimate value
    • Forecasting tax expense
  • Working with Payroll team on the annual PSA return.
  • Preparation of income tax returns for all Group companies
  • Ownership of SAO framework and best practice, ensuring sufficient self-review of internal controls relating to taxation
  • Understanding the group's tax positionand preparation of tax notes for individual entities and group tax note
  • Maintaining the deferred tax schedules
  • Understanding VAT consequences of products sold and updating till buttons periodically
  • Ensuring tax risks are documented and communicated regularly.
  • Aspects of property tax, including option to tax
  • Any ad hoc tax issues which may arise

Statutory reporting and Accounting

  • Producing statutory accounts for trading and head office companies
  • Assist with the production of the annual report
  • Ensuring periodic intercompany matrix eliminates
  • Assist with the annual audit
  • Preparing and submitting monthly ONS returns
  • Assistance with the selection and implementation of the new accounting framework
